About Us
Aims
Through active self-help and mutual support,
our aim is to help stroke survivors of working age
optimise their recovery, take control of their lives
and regain as much independence as possible,
including returning to work.
History and Location
Different Strokes was founded as a charity in 1996
specifically to support stroke survivors of working age.
(Charity No 1092168). Different Strokes has a network
of 45 Groups throughout the country, one of which is
the London North Group
The London North Group of Different Strokes was
established in 2001 by a group of younger stroke
survivors from Tottenham. Since then, the Group
has steadily increased in size, from 50 in 2003,
to 100 in 2008. The Group is based in Wood Green
in Haringey and serves all of North London.
Current Activities
We provide services, which help enhance mobility,
boost confidence and reduce the sense of
isolation
experienced by stroke survivors. In addition, by
sharing our experience of stroke, we learn from each
other, exchange coping strategies and discover new
skills and values that equip us to move back into the
world. Members are encouraged to become involved
in the running the group.
Haringey Mayor's Charity
Councillor Alan Dobbie Haringey's Mayor selected
Different Strokes North London to be his charity
for 2008-2009 .
